YAY!

I've been searching for a like minded group of artists to do shows with, I love art openings that are fun and more like a happening.  Plus it can get a bit lonely working alone in a studio all day.  Hanging out at Weeneez,  run and owned by Julie Rico, I met a group of artists she is working with who hold their meetings in the restaurant / gallery.  I went to  a meeting and met members of the Skid Row Arts Collective. Raw and real, poets, painters, musicians, singers, assemblage, photography, dancers and more. I presented my work and got to see what they do, I think I have found my crazy art family and I'm excited! The next art walk is Thursday, January 14th and we will be in two locations on 5th St., Weenez on 5th and Spring and the Exchange and the alley next to it, located next door to the Rosslyn  Hotel at 5th and Main.

If you are downtown Monday through Friday, 9am - 3pm, have a meal at Weeneez! They are right on the corner of 5th and Spring St. Good hot dogs and really great chili and one of the best breakfast deals around.  Yummy!  Weeneez is also home to the Julie Rico Gallery located in the back, tell Julie you would love to see it and she will let you venture back there!

FRANKENPUNKS

Here are some pics of a current artwork series. I love vinyl toys and steampunk creations and these little monsters of mine are a low tech combo of both genres.  Very tactile and made to be touched, the hardware adds weight,  the bottoms are open so the beautiful designs made by the hardware can be seen.

Hoping to gather enough of them for a gallery show but they sell as soon as soon as completed. I'm not complaining,  in this rough economy I feel truly blessed.  These little experiments take alot longer to create and  I find myself getting attached to them,  they sell for $100 - $150 dollars.

New Studio!
For 15 years my studio was located in the sweet bosom of an artist community, the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA.  In search of new inspiration and energy I recently moved my studio to the Downtown Los Angeles Gallery Row area. I've never tried my art out on the eastside.

Pet Portraits

I started doing pet portraits for a friends kitty who needed vet donations.  They were fun to do and I'm still getting requests for them . If interested,  please email me.  The actual size of the ones below measure 3 in.  x 3 in.,  acrylic paint on 1 in. thick wood and cost is $25.  I'm working on some right now  that measure 6 in. x 6 in. on 2 in. wood and they run between $60 - $75.  I also working on one that has two dogs in it.  The cost of another pet in the same piece is $15 each pet.  A small donation from each portrait is made to a friend's feral cat colony.  My own kitties have always been ferals so they hold a special place in my heart.  These portraits are also a nice way to remember a pet that has passed to the Rainbow Bridge.  Little wings and halos, or if you prefer little horns for your beloved can be added if you want.

Getting back into the swing of things!
Due to one of those life throws you a curve ball things my studio layed quiet and unused for about a year and a half, yikes, finally this past spring I cleaned the dust off the paints and cut some wood to start creating art again. Thanks for all the love and support from friends during my downtime!  You are the best angels a person could have. Wishing you smiles and giggles!

Something to Save Us!

Why this series?

To me the world is a crazy place spinning more out and out of control.  My original concept was that we all needed something that makes us stop and smile, something that when your day has sucked or you're feeling blue you turn and hey, there is my Xena doll, oh I love her, if she was here right now, she would swing that damn of swords of hers and save me, you smile and laugh at the sillines and forget about the sucky blueness even if for only a minute. Even if we don't believe in something bigger than ourselves that saves us I would love to believe we all have that psychological need to feel safe and a deep desire to be saved.  This series is my quest to create artwork based loosely on this concept of salvation.
